Day 3 - Exploring the Wonders of Cherrapunji

Today is dedicated to Meghalaya's most extraordinary feat of living engineering — the Double Decker Living Root Bridge, a structure grown over generations by the Khasi tribes by training the roots of rubber trees across a river gorge. Walking across it feels like stepping into a living, breathing piece of folklore.

For the adventurous, an optional trek descends through dense rainforest and over countless stone steps toward Rainbow Falls — a cascading waterfall framed by natural pools so clear that rainbows form in the spray on sunny days.

Later, drive to Lyngksiar Waterfalls, a quieter, less-visited cascade where the sound of falling water and the surrounding forest canopy create a deeply calming atmosphere — perfect for unwinding after the morning's trek.

Day 4 - Cherrapunji → Dawki | Umngot River | Shnongpdeng Village | India-Bangladesh Border

After breakfast, begin the journey toward Dawki, a border town that has become legendary for one thing above all else: water so clear it seems to defy reality.

The Umngot River at Dawki is famously transparent — boats appear to float in mid-air above the riverbed, and the turquoise water against green hills creates one of the most photographed scenes in all of Northeast India.

On the way, stop at the tranquil Shnongpdeng village, a riverside hamlet known for its peaceful campsites, gentle breezes, and uninterrupted views of the Umngot — a favourite spot for travellers wanting to slow down completely.
Spend time near the India-Bangladesh border, where the landscape shifts subtly and the sense of being at the edge of the map is hard to ignore.

Day 5 - Dawki → Shillong | Elephant Falls | Phe Phe Falls | Don Bosco Museum

Wake to the calm of Dawki's riverside camp, enjoy breakfast, and begin the drive back toward Shillong.
The route is dotted with waterfalls, the first being Elephant Falls — a three-tiered cascade named for a rock formation that once resembled an elephant (since eroded away, but the name and the beauty remain).

Continue to Phe Phe Waterfall, a hidden gem surrounded by rich biodiversity — keep an eye out for unusual plant species and the occasional glimpse of local wildlife along the forested trail.

Back in Shillong, immerse yourself in Northeast India's cultural heritage at the Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures, a striking museum showcasing the traditions of the seven sister states, followed by a visit to the nearby Cathedral, an architectural landmark in its own right.
